CBD and its impact on neurons: myths and realities

Cannabidiol, or CBD, is generating increasing interest in the scientific and medical communities, as well as among the general public. This molecule, found in cannabis, possesses numerous therapeutic properties without producing the psychoactive effects of its cousin, THC. Given its growing popularity, a question often arises: does CBD damage neurons? In this article, we will explore the effects of CBD on our brain, its neuroprotective properties, and the current state of scientific research on this topic. What is CBD and how does it affect our brain?

CBD is one of the many cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant. Unlike tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the main compound responsible for the psychoactive effects of cannabis, it does not produce euphoric or hallucinogenic effects.

Given these properties mentioned above, it would be surprising if CBD destroyed neurons. In fact,studies conducted so far show that CBD may have a protective effect on neurons

both structurally and functionally. Thus, contrary to some misconceptions, there is no scientific evidence suggesting that CBD “fries” neurons or causes brain damage.

drowsiness, especially when used in conjunction with other sedatives; changes in appetite or weight.
