CBG: The Super Cannabinoid and its Impact on Health

What is CBG?

Cannabigerol (CBG) is one of over 100 cannabinoids found in cannabis. It was discovered by Yehiel Gaoni and Raphael Mechoulam in 1964. Unlike delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the main psychoactive compound responsible for cannabis, CBG is a non-intoxicating cannabinoid.

This means it does not produce the “highs” typically associated with marijuana use.

  • The Potential Therapeutic Benefits of CBG
  • CBG is generating increasing interest due to its non-psychoactive properties and pharmacological potential. Among the potential therapeutic benefits of CBG are:
  • Antibacterial and antimicrobial properties

Anti-inflammatory effects

Neuroprotection and slowing of neuronal degeneration Reduction of anxiety and depressionTreatment of certain skin conditions, such as psoriasis

CBG and the fight against Covid-19

According to a recent study, scientists have discovered that two compounds found in hemp, including CBG, could have a similar effect on preventing severe forms of Covid-19.

These compounds would prevent the virus from entering healthy cells, thus limiting infection and the spread of the disease.

  • Legality and use of CBG
  • Cannabigerol from hemp plants is
  • legal in most countries and authorized for use in cosmetics in Europe.

However, it is advisable to check local regulations before using CBG-based products. On the market, CBG is available in various forms, such as:

CBG oils and tinctures

  • CBG capsules for oral administration CBG topical creams and lotionsCBG e-liquids for vaping
  • CBG vs. CBD: What are the differences? Cannabidiol (CBD) is another non-psychoactive cannabinoid found in cannabis and widely known for its various therapeutic properties.CBG is often considered the “precursor” or “regulator” of CBD,
  • because it is converted into various cannabinoids, including CBD, during the growth of the cannabis plant.

While both cannabinoids offer similar therapeutic benefits, there are some differences between CBG and CBD:

CBG acts directly on the CB1 and CB2 receptors of the endocannabinoid system,

while CBD exhibits indirect activity, primarily by modulating the function of the CB1 receptor.
