Possession of cannabis
What does Italian law stipulate regarding the possession and/or consumption of cannabis ? The answer varies depending on the period in question. Before 2019, possessing and/or consuming cannabis was prohibited. However, in December 2019, the Italian parliament legalized it. Moreover, it went beyond simple authorization. Why? Because, unlike many other European countries that set the THC at a maximum of 0.2%, Italy exceeded this limit. It legalized "light" cannabis, meaning cannabis containing up to 0.5% THC. This news is sure to please the 20.7% of the population who consume this substance. Nevertheless, it's important to clarify that this is for personal use only. Furthermore, the quantity must not exceed 15 grams.
Cannabis cultivation
What about cannabis cultivation in Italy ? It too is following practically the same trend as the previous case. The decision made in December 2019 authorizes the cultivation of cannabis plants. However, there are restrictions. What are they? Firstly, this cultivation must be for personal use. Secondly, the quantity cultivated must remain reasonable. Ideally, a maximum of 5 plants.
Sale of cannabis
What about the distribution or sale of cannabis in Italy ? It is permitted in tobacco shops and specialized stores. Light cannabis is sold there legally.
Given the above, it goes without saying that the Italian population freely benefits from the properties of hemp molecules, particularly THC and CBD. The main industries that use it are cosmetics, food, and medicine.
