Morocco, which recently adopted a law authorizing the legal use of cannabis for therapeutic and industrial purposes, has concluded an agreement with an American company specializing in cannabis processing. The Moroccan Consultative Association for Cannabis Use (AMCUC) has signed a partnership with the American company Advanced. The Moroccan Consultative Association for Cannabis Use (AMCUC), which promotes the development of the cannabis sector in Morocco, announced on Wednesday, August 2, 2023, the signing of a partnership with the American company Advanced, which presents itself as the world’s leading cannabis company. This is a first in the cannabis field, as an American industry giant is partnering with a Moroccan cannabis consulting association. The collaboration will begin with the scientific and technical training of doctors, pharmacists, farmers, and technicians working in the cannabis supply chain. This training will be based on internationally recognized programs developed by experts from both partner countries. According to Radhouane Rabie, President of the Moroccan Association of Cannabis Users (AMCUC), the training will cover the properties and uses of cannabis-derived medicines, as well as the licenses, irrigation methods, and pesticides necessary for the proper cultivation and marketing of cannabis. The American company Advanced, which brings together international cannabis professionals, will provide logistical and technical support through its experts, skills, and international expertise. Rabie expressed optimism about the impact of this collaboration, which he believes will transform cannabis cultivation in Morocco through legalization. He added that the American company considers the Moroccan market a leading market capable of competing with major international markets in terms of converting cannabis to multi-use products.
This partnership comes at a time when Morocco adopted a law last March authorizing the legal use of cannabis for therapeutic and industrial purposes. The Kingdom hopes to benefit from this sector by creating jobs, generating revenue, and reducing illegal trafficking.
It should be noted that Morocco is the world’s leading producer of cannabis resin, according to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime. The country has an estimated 47,000 hectares under cultivation, primarily in the Rif Mountains. Cannabis provides income for approximately 800,000 people in the Rif region. Law 13-21 concerning the legal uses of cannabis aims to regulate the production, processing, transport, export, distribution, and use of cannabis for medical, cosmetic, and industrial purposes. It provides for the creation of a
National Agency for the Regulation of Cannabis-Related Activities
, responsible for issuing the necessary licenses to stakeholders in the sector. The law also sets the conditions for cannabis cultivation, which must have a tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) content less than or equal to 0.2%.
It also limits authorized cultivation areas to regions with a history of cannabis production. Source: https://maroc-diplomatique.net/un-partenariat-maroco-americain-pour-former-a-la-culture-du-cannabis/
