Parliamentary report on hemp for well-being in France

As part of the Joint Information Mission on the Regulation and Impact of the Different Uses of Cannabis, a report on wellness hemp has been published. Indeed, it has been observed that this sector is growing in France. This is evidenced by the ever-increasing number of

shops selling CBD wellness products.

France has nearly 400 of them today. Unfortunately, this molecule (Cannabidiol) is caught up in what could be described as a “legal gray area.” It was therefore time for this mission to focus on this issue, in order to make proposals that could shed light on the matter for the Government. CBD in France: Let’s set the scene!

In fact, in France, as in other countries around the world,

CBD

is a victim of its own environment. Indeed, the cannabis plant alone contains around a hundred cannabinoid components and another hundred non-cannabinoids. Within the first category (cannabinoids) lies a well-known molecule: THC. It is this molecule that is believed to be responsible for the psychotropic effects, the « high » associated with cannabis.

Consequently, other molecules that would be beneficial to humans and animals are suffering from this negative publicity. This is the case with CBD, as Jean-Baptiste Moreau explains:

« CBD is currently the collateral victim of the predominantly safety-focused approach to cannabis in our country. »

It was therefore high time that this confusion disappeared. In other words, that the psychotropic effects, which are those of THC, be attributed solely to it, and that the numerous benefits of CBD be recognized, so that they can be fully utilized in France.

Cannabidiol is said to have the following properties:

“Relaxing and calming, with the added benefit of proven antiepileptic and anticonvulsant effects.”

But… “none of the adverse effects of THC (confusion, anxiety, delirium, hallucinations, impaired memory and concentration).” This report therefore serves as a foundation for establishing a fair and equitable legal framework. Thus, “guaranteeing complete safety for the consumer.” And furthermore, helping France maintain control over this sector.

“This parliamentary report is a step in the right direction. France, which was in a particularly damaging situation, will be able to gain a foothold in this new sector and try to catch up on the ground it has lost so far.”
